The Deal:

US based petrochemical field services business is a portfolio company for a mid-market private equity firm. They built an innovative cloud based platform to improve complex capital project management as well as improve performance of their own field services staffing business. Sabio was engaged to develop a strategy to transform the company from a focus on staffing to software services.

Sabio Engagement:

  • Conducted a comprehensive assessment and strategic analysis of the overall business operation, existing strategy, as well as a deep dive into features and underlying technology

  • Develop a business strategy, business model and go-to market strategy along with a target state operating model, focused on standing up internal capabilities related to the operation of a software-oriented business including staffing/organizational needs

  • Develop a technology strategy focused on the product itself, underlying technology stack, software development procedures, plus a full competitive landscape analysis

  • Build a resulting target state roadmap, initiative portfolio, cost model

Business and Technology Outcome:

Sabio developed a strategic roadmap and initiative portfolio, which contained 102 initiatives and projected to require $3-4MM of investment over a 3-year period; the roadmap was designed so the company would be cash-flow neutral within 12-18 months

Based on Sabio’s analysis, company decided to focus resulting goto market strategy on small to medium petrochemical companies and form a wholly-owned subsidiary to exclusively focus on the commercial software platform, with its own staff and separate financials

The overall strategic plan was subsequently approved and adopted by company leadership and the Board of Directors, and execution of the roadmap is currently underway.
